Board Member Self-Assessment
Rubric for effective and equity-minded school board leadership
The purpose of taking our self-assessment is to allow our school board members to honestly evaluate their own individual strengths and weaknesses when it comes to equity and impact. By using these results and combining them with rubrics developed with our fellows and members, school board members can discover what steps they need to take to become better leaders and help close the opportunity gap for all students — especially students of color.
This assessment usually only takes a few minutes, but there is no time limit — please take all the time you need to make sure every question is answered honestly to get results that are as accurate as possible.
Once your self-assessment is complete, you will be able to evaluate your scores in comparison to our Becoming an Equity-Minded School Board Member and Becoming an Impactful School Board Member rubrics. These rubrics are designed to help you craft a plan for taking developmental steps and, ultimately, improving opportunities for our students.
About the School Board Partners Self-Assessment Rubric
Both our Equity-Minded and Impactful rubrics were created after a year of working with our School Board Partners fellows and mentors in order to understand the current state of our nation’s school boards and what is necessary to finally close our country’s opportunity gap. These rubrics are not comprehensive or prescriptive, but rather illustrations of the nuanced and complex issues we as school board members need to address. As such, they are living documents and can be updated and changed as we receive additional input from school board members like you.
